Fresh Herbs + Spiced Rum

We found ourselves with some gifted fresh herbs this week (the eatin’ kind, not the planting kind), so we did a couple of things with it.  I added lots and lots of fresh oregano to chicken with some salt and pepper, which made our Monday and Tuesday veggie dishes more wonderful.

We also decided to make some herb-filled drinks.  We tried mint juleps on Monday.  I only made it through a couple of sips.  Not my cup of tea.  It’s a shame, too, because mint juleps are such a Southern thing to drink.  Oh well.

Then we tried a new take on the mojito (new to me, anyway)–the dirty mojito.  We didn’t throw in any clay from the yard.  The “dirty” is from using spiced rum instead of the regular kind of rum.  Like all of my technical terminology?  (You can get to the recipe by clicking on either of the pictures.)

There it is all fuzzy in front of our flowers.  Let me tell you, a mojito with spiced rum is the bee’s knees.  Do I feel weird writing about it at 8:40 AM?  Yes.  But that doesn’t make it any less tasty.

Here’s what it looks like when it’s being professional:
