Muffins and cupcakes and sweets, oh my!

Few things make me smile like a good dose of sugar.  I almost agree with a famous overgrown elf who thinks that the main food groups are candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup.  If the food groups were my choice though, it would be muffins, doughnuts, ice cream, and veggies.  You have to throw in some vegetables to avoid death by sweets.  I think Buddy the Elf might have been covered by a North Pole health loophole.  I’m not sure.

This weekend is actually going to be all about a youth retreat, not muffins.  The 24 hours between now and the retreat are going to be muffin-centric, however.  I’m part of the unofficial snack task force for the retreat.  That makes tonight all baking all the time, or at least from 9ish when I get home to whenever the last tasty morsel comes out of the oven.  In the three hours before that, the night is also about community group Bible study, a dog walk, finding something for dinner, starting laundry, and packing clothes for the weekend extravaganza.  Hopefully I’ll still be able to read a recipe by the time I make it to the kitchen.

I’m already looking forward to one of my favorite cookbooks, 500 Cupcakes, a serious carb coma, and some baking-appropriate music in the background.  If you have to end a really long day with a project, baking isn’t one to complain about.
